Brazilian Type 2s
The roof we manufacture for the Brazilian T2 is based on the later Westfalia Roof that was fitted to 1974 VW campervans onwards. It is a three-quarter length, front lifting, rear hinged roof that runs from the back gutter to the front doors.
We fit a 45 inch x 6 foot bed into the roof. Once the roof is fitted the height of your van will be approximately 2 metres (although vans themselves do vary in height). Our roof is easier to raise and lower than the original Westfalia as we use external gas struts and hinges.
Technical Info
To fit this roof we remove the whole of the Brazilian roof from just behind the front cross member all the way to the rear gutter. We then weld in a 40 x 40 x 3 mm steel framework down both sides of the van. This framework is then covered by 1 mm powder coated pressed steel sections that form the inner headlining of the van and support for the bed. A 1 mm pressed steel powder coated section is fitted at the rear of the van which provides strength for the roof and support for the bed. A pressed steel and powder coated cross member is then fitted midway along the van to support both bed sections and restrengthen the roof.
The hinges are designed to lift the front to the roof by 43 inches and the back of the roof by 10 inches. These and the gas struts are fixed outside of the canopy to prevent any possible leak problems.
The canopy is a modern acrylic sail canvas that is available in a variety of colours (see the extras page to chose your colour). The material is impregnation coated, 100% polyester, abrasion, mildew and ultra-violet resistant and is produced with a clear seal coat to provide a high degree of water resistance. The canopy is included in the price of your roof.
