The 1980s Type 25s

T25 Van with Roof ConversionThe roof we manufacture for the T25 is based on the later Westfalia Roof that was fitted to 1985 VW campervans onwards. It is a three-quarter length, front lifting, rear hinged roof that runs from the back gutter to the front doors. Over the cab area is a separate luggage rack.

Our roof has the same look, feel and dimensions of the original. It will fit on any T25  van from 1980 to 1991. We fit a 46 inch x 6 foot bed into the roof. Once the roof is fitted the height of your van will be approximately 2 metres (although vans themselves do vary in height). Our roof is easier to raise and lower than the original Westfalia as we use external gas struts and hinges.

Technical Info

The hole we cut in the steel roof of your van is approximately four feet by four feet and runs between the front and middle cross members. As no cross members are removed, the roof does not need any additional strengthening. We supply a plywood framework that is fitted around the cut hole. This enables the area to be trimmed.

The hinges are designed to lift the front to the roof by 43 inches and the back of the roof by 10 inches.  These and the gas struts are fixed outside of the canopy to prevent any possible leak problems.

The canopy can be either a Just Kampers cotton canvas canopy supplied in a straw colour. This is included in the price. We now manufacture our own in a modern acrylic sail cloth material that is waterproof, rot and mould resistant and UV stable. This canopy can be supplied in a wide choice of colours but does add £180 plus vat to the price of the roof.
